Skyler Fusco is a New Jersey based photographer, designer and communications manager. Skyler’s journey in photography began with a passion for action sports. The style he’s developed overtime has transitioned into a more narrative focus as he now aims to share a visual journey of his own experiences with grief as a way to remember and share the legacies of the people he’s lost from his perspective.

Photography

Each and every photograph reflects the impact these individuals have had on my life, conveyed through thoughtful composition, subject matter, and coloring.

People are often colorful in the most unique way. Memories replay in ways that words can’t always describe. Sometimes words have a habit of diminishing the meaning behind them when shared with those who can’t always relate. Photo’s have a whole different skillset when it comes to communication; a moment in time, a single fraction of a second, where so much more can be understood.

My goal now is to show you that there is a beauty in grief and there is a beauty in persevering through it. These interactions with grief are only painful because they act as confirmation that I did in fact love dearly. They may not be the direct subjects of my photo’s anymore, but some part of them lives on through my own expression.

About Skyler

Skyler was born to an American mother and a naturalized Italian father. His upbringing was a dynamic experience as he jumped from one culture to the other. The whiplash eventually spawned confusion which evolved into an appreciation of the differences and beauty between the two. This gave Skyler a neverending curiosity towards humanity and all the ways in which we’re different and the way we all collectively tell the story of our own humanity from our own lenses.

His childhood was spent in a rural house out in the country, due to his father’s love of nature, yet still found opportunities to fill his childhood with activities like Jiu-Jutsu, music, fencing, and soccer. He’s always been drawn to a new experience, not for himself, but so he can understand perspective’s better.

In his teenage years, he found an appreciation for cinema, specifically in the skill of the camera work which led him to his first camera purchase in 2016. Since then, he’s been able to take his talents from Lake Placid, NY to Jackson Hole, WY and even found himself working with professional athletes from Red Bull to the Olympics.

In 2020, his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer right before the cusp of COVID-19. He spent his senior year of college at home, aiding his family in such uncertain times which radically transformed his life and his perspective.
